Ethics Won’t Cut It; Vector Marketing (Part 1)

by socialnetworking on May 27, 2010

During the spring of last year I heard a scary tale from a friend about a local business that had hired her. She was enticed by a high rate of pay with flexible hours for school. I did some investigating and found a lot of disgruntled employees of a networking business called Vector Marketing. Vector Marketing is in charge of the sales of a American made high end knife and although there has been a lot of trash talking of Vector Marketing by disgruntled employees Vector has done nothing illegal nor is it a scam. But a lot of applicants have called ethical fouls in terms of there recruiting and hiring techniques. Many claim to be mislead about the specifics about the job until the last day of training. I am publishing these interviews in effort to educate other young applicants will be informed about the job they are applying for. All interviews were done in Oregon, so it does not cover a national trend. I am protected by the American Freedom of Speech Act. Not all interviews are negative. If you are in Oregon and would like to be interviewed please contact me.

I have had the same experience here in the UK with a similar company who only pays based on commission which is good for anyone who loves working in that kind of environment. But for me part of the job involved giving away your soul or morals as one would say because for example I would never sell my products to the elderly, disabled or unemployed as I know it is morally wrong in taking advantaged of people who are vulnerable so for me it is a scam in that aspect.

it really is one of the lowest and most degrading positions. they lie and scam for a living and sell stupid fucking knives and garden ware. what a joke.

ForeverMan96 May 28, 2010 at 12:56 am

This company is a fucking hack! How does a company stay in business for this long when it has thousands of negative employee threads on the net? This has got to be one of the most degrading “professions” one can have. Fuck Vector!

They screwed my girlfriend out of her commission.

jesse420hoss May 28, 2010 at 2:20 am

daisuke1990 May 28, 2010 at 2:53 am

totally. or maybe being determined and willing to go out of your comfort zone is undignified?just it doesn’t work 4 u doesn’t make it a scam. i worked my ass off in my first month and made just base pay :( i went to meeting’s and conferences, made key staff and i’m drowning in success,CPO,and cash. this jobs isn’t for negative, lazy people. there’s no such thing as a free lunch and no such thing as easy money

I’m a college student making more money then I ever have and gaining valuble work experience. Its not an easy job, but its a good one.
and what makes a cutco sales rep undignified?
the fact that they want to do something besides flip burgers between semesters?

ravepartyinthesky May 28, 2010 at 3:46 am

Just to clarify, I guess you would give out the phone number and address of the people you visit when you turn in your qualified presentation report, but I’ve been doing so much in commissions that I haven’t had to turn one of those in.

ravepartyinthesky May 28, 2010 at 3:46 am

I don’t really know what’s up with all this. My branch has been pretty clear on the way the job works. Yes, the ad for the job was somewhat cryptic, but since then they’ve done a pretty good job of explaining everything. Also, with the list of friends and family, they just had us compile the list for ourselves and manage our own contacts (also clear from the beginning), so the only time the company gets their numbers is on order forms.

sabala85 May 28, 2010 at 8:01 am

An appointment is 45 minutes long……that’s less then an hour!!

liebertube May 28, 2010 at 8:06 am

Do you even understand what ethics are?

Orion22deblanc May 28, 2010 at 8:17 am

you know what you are? you are a poser. what r YOU really doing w/ your life? u effin swindle your friends and family into buying mediocre kitchen knifes using pity or peer pressure. this company takes ur insecurity and others’ trust in you and uses it for a simple profit. you are disgusting. i dont care how much money you make, ur no better than an insurance man. what you call “determination”, most would call unethical-selfish-motivation. i hope you look back one day and regret this.

There are many opinions on whether the job is good or bad. We all have different tastes but…. the ad said: $16.75 an hour. What the f>>ck is that? The truth is, it’s $16.75 per APPOINTMENT, which you need to set up yourself, drive there and all that stuff. An HOUR vs per APPOINTMENT is a lot different, isn’t it? Maybe they do give you a good percentage from sales, but if the ad was saying per APPOINTMENT instead of per hour, I would think twice before applying for the job !!!!

Not only that, it being a deposit you can get your cash back at any time as long as you return the knives tip top shape.
